Manic Monday: Teenage Boys, Gummy Bears, and ???

It’s Manic Monday. As a mom, we all have those life moments where you just gotta roll with the punches and say why. This is my manic Monday story of the week. It involves teenage boys, gummy bears, porn, and a call no mom wants to get.

The Call

Have you ever gotten a phone call and before the person was even finished you just had to say why!!?? I’ve gotten multiple but the one that will forever stand out is the one I received from my 14yr olds principal. Now picture it in your head…… I’m sitting drinking coffee and my cell phone rings.

It’s my sons principal. Now they all go to different schools so I knew exactly who was going to be the subject of the conversation. She starts talking and immediately I swallow my coffee wrong because surely she did not just say what I thought I heard. So I ask her to repeat herself and here’s what she said: ” Mrs. Bass.I’m afraid we are going to have to suspend Joseph for 3 days.”

Immediately my mind blanks. This is my sweetest kid. Very quiet, kind of goofy so I have no idea how this could happen. She continues: ” I have to tell you while this is going to sound funny its actually a very serious matter.” Ok I say with a bit of hesitation because what could he have done. Seriously the most the kid does is forget to bathe for days at a time so I was not expecting what she said next. ” Mrs. Bass Im afraid that his teacher caught him sending Gummy Bear pornography in a email to some other students.”  That would be the point I spit out my coffee because in all my 34 years I never even knew this was a thing. I sputter … huh… wait.. what.

The Sit Down

His prinicpal tells me she will explain when I get there and could I please come in to sign papers and pick him up. I arrive at the school with my toddler in tow and I see Joseph and his 2 best friends all sitting there heads down cheeks red looking well pathetic. His friends parents walk in and we all have the realization they are all going down together.

Finally I get to speak to the principal and she logs onto her computer and shows me what hegummy bears was sending. Now I in no way promote pornography however this was actual real gummy bears doing things that I didn’t even know my kid knew about. Don’t believe me just youtube it. My hubby didn’t believe me well he does now LOL  She tells me one of the friends sent it to Joseph who then forwarded it to a few more friends. Heres the kicker. They used their school emails that they know are monitored.

Listening to his Principal I felt awful. Not because I was questioning my parenting but because deep down in my soul I wanted to laugh and I don’t mean a little chuckle. The urge to laugh almost killed me. I signed the paperwork, collected my son, went to the car, and I laughed. A deep belly laugh all the way from the depths of my soul. My son started to chuckle and I had to pause to let him know oh no bud you are still in trouble.

Gummy Bears Now What

I waited for the hubby to get home. As a mom how do you have a talk with your 14 yr old about why gummy bear porn is inappropriate?? The hubby talked to him about why that was wrong and why at 14 he should not be looking at any type of pornography. That’s when the kid starts crying and says he thought it was wrestling. Now at 14 yrs old he’s had the talk, etc so we didn’t know do we believe him or do we say yeah ok good try. We decided first offense we would let it go. I figure the walk of shame thru the school and the fact that I’m sure word got around the school was a good enough consequence. As Adam ( my hubby) and I laid in bed later that night we both almost simultaneously started laughing.

I’m that Mom

The reason I tell this story is for everyone who knows me in real life. Now y’all can stop asking why the Gummy Bear song is my ringtone LOL LOL It will be my ringtone until another child does something that has an actual song to it. It will be my song with him at his wedding.

If you have a manic Monday to share feel free to send it me or comment. I love to hear from my readers.

I know this is probably a serious matter that you had to deal with, along with a talk, but this blog post made me laugh so hard. I don’t even know how to deal with that.

I love that he thought it was about wrestling, your poor sweet baby.
